FAQs

What is the Suzy Ferguson Spirit Award?

The awards were created in memory of one of the PR industry’s brightest young stars, Suzy Ferguson, who passed away from bowel cancer on 26 July 2012, aged just 31.

Suzy was an inspirational person, whose work impacted clients and fellow professionals. Suzy also worked tirelessly in the community outside her work, even after she was diagnosed with cancer. Her spirit and talent positively influenced every organisation with which she worked.

Who launched the award?

Suzy’s former employer, LEWIS PR, approached Gorkana with the idea of a unique industry award. It was officially launched in September 2013.

Who can enter?

We’re looking for people to nominate someone who works in the communications industry and who displays exceptional character, integrity and determination.

What categories are there?

There are two categories and two awards, The Suzy Spirit Inspiration Award, and The Suzy Spirit Rising Star Award. Individuals can only be entered into one category, but you can make as many nominations as you see fit.

How much does it cost to enter?

Entry is free.

What’s the prize?

The two winners will be honoured at a lunch reception in London where they will receive a commemorative trophy. The winners will also be announced and promoted across Gorkana, Cision, PR Newswire and their associated channels. Recognition will not be in the form of prize monies. A donation will be made on behalf of the Award by LEWIS PR, and given to the official charity Bowel Cancer UK.

What’s the link with Bowel Cancer UK?

Bowel Cancer UK is the official charity for the award. The charity aims to save lives and improve the quality of life for all those affected by bowel cancer. The charity’s work is essential as early diagnosis is a key challenge in survival. All funds resulting from the award will go towards funding the vital work the charity does.

What’s the deadline for submissions?

The deadline for the 2017 award is Friday December 23, 2016. Follow @suzyspiritaward on Twitter for the latest news and updates.

Who is judging the award?

There are four judges: Suzy’s husband Alex Ferguson; Suzy’s father Canon John Carter; former colleague Sally O’Neill, LEWIS VP International; and Cision, CEO (EMEA) Jeremy Thompson.
